8 - You Must Choose

Difficult decision

After deciding to become a nun you will be taken into as a novice with temporary vows of chastity and poverty. During this time, which can last longer than two years, you may want think about this very hard. Question you may ask yourself are:

1. Do you really want to never have sex ever again
2. Do you really want to never marry and have kids ever.
3. Do you really want to live a life without money for the rest of you life
4. Do you really want to pray continuously everyday, up to several times a day
5. Do you really want to never be able to wear clothes that you want
6. Are you dedicated onto serving others until you die

If you can get past all these questions then a life as a nun should be no problem. But remember these are very difficult decisions and being a nun last for a lifetime and you may be shunned from your church by deciding to take steps out of this lifestyle.

7 - No Age Limit

Be as old as you want

People often ask about how old do you have to be to become a nun. The answer is that you can become a nun at any age. Either 20 or 60, it doesn't matter as long as you're unmarried or widowed.

6 - Health

If you get sick

A nun is responsible for their own psychological, dental and physical health until they take their final permanent vows. Upon taking vows anything about your health is taken care of by the order until the day you die.

5 - Levels of Nun

There are higher levels

Novice - This is the entry level which can last longer than 3 years

Rassaphore - When deemed ready the novice will be asked to join the monastery and be given their new robe and veil.

Stavrophore - At this level a "sister" is now a "mother". You are asked to join at this level after several years as a rassaphore when you are deemed highly qualified and have much discipline and have helped many people.

Great Schema - This is the level of extreme greatness, achieved after dozens of years of service or at death

4 - Orders

Each Order is Different

A nun must join an order to do they're mission. Each order is different. Some focus on the needy. Some orders focus on schooling. Some focus on medical and health. Some do protests for anti-war. Some do a multitude of many things. Orders also choose what clothes you can wear and if you may own property. You must research many orders in order to choose one that is perfect for you.

3 - Missions

- What You do

A nuns mission can vary from school worker, social worker, nurse or doctor. You will not be paid for your service as it is for god and as a nun you take a vow of poverty. Any funds received goes to the benefit of the church.

2 - Requirements

- Not For Everyone



- You must be catholic.

- Education. Some orders require you to have a degree of some sort if the mission you are undertaken requires it.

- Not Married. You cannot be married or previously married. If you were married you must prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the marriage was false. Although if your divorce is from the Catholic Church you may still be allowed to become a nun.

- You must not be in debt.

- You may need a year or two of apprenticeship, living in a convent and temporary vows before you are allowed to make permanent vows.

- Any children that you have must be over 18.

- If you were married in the past but are now a widow then you are acceptable to become a nun.

1 - The Calling

- The call to serve god, nuns, sisters

You have received the calling to become a nun and serve god. There are two types of nuns. Those who work indoors are called nuns, those who work outdoors are called sisters. Each nun has a different agenda and mission and you must decide what is suited best for you. Leaving the order as a nun is not looked upon lightly and is just a bad as divorce as they want you to be a nun for a lifetime.
